What is Onychomycosis?
Onychomycosis is a very common fungal nail condition that causes nails to be thickened, brittle, crumbly, yellow and cloudy in appearance. It’s medically treatable via various methods ranging from topical, oral anti-fungal or fungal nail laser treatments.
The great majority of fungal infections are caused by dermatophytes. Successful treatment of toenail onychomycosis may require a long treatment duration of up to a year. If laser treatment is used, this duration can be drastically shortened. The success of the treatment is when the nail completely clears with both negative microscopy and culture.
The right doctor for treating this condition is a podiatrist, who unlike medical doctors, specializes specifically in ALL conditions related to foot and ankle. Dr. Isaac Tabari is an acclaimed expert in dermatological conditions of the foot & ankle. Patients travel to him from across the world to diagnose and treat their stubborn fungal nail conditions. Dr. Tabari’s unique approach to attacking onychomycosis helps him lead the way in treating this condition from within. Come see us at NYC Podiatry Center if you are suffering from this condition.
Onychomycosis Causes:
Fungi are microscopic organisms which thrive in wet climates such as swimming pools or showers. The fungi may enter the skin through any gap between nail and skin.
